Contributor Evening

We like to try new stuff. Last time, we had a full contributor day on Friday. For this 3rd edition, we choose to start our WordCamp with a first conference day and have a contributor evening after for a few hours. For those that were with us last time, the contributor evening takes place at the same location, the Via Via.

We will have all the upper floors for ourselves and we will have different tables to join forces to contribute to WordPress. Starting from 6 PM, we will have a quick introduction and introduce you to the team leads. After that, you can join the teams to see how you can contribute to WordPress.

Let’s try to answer as many questions about this part, if you have any additional questions regarding the contributor evening, please feel free to us an e-mail: volunteers@wordcamp.be. We will be adding questions/information to this page.

Register

Since our venue has limited space, we have a registration form. We hope you all do and that we reach the limit. If you want to be there, please sign up here: https://forms.gle/4bKq2PXsUeHYHoSF8!

FAQ

What is contributing to WordPress?

WordPress is awesome, we all know that. WordPress is the most used CMS out there and relies on volunteers wanting to donate time, effort and knowledge to improve and maintain it. Everyone can help and contribute. The common misconception is that you need programming skills to help. Let’s clear that out of the way. This is not necessary! There are a lot of different teams within the WordPress project where everyone can help out. You can find all the teams on https://make.wordpress.org/.

How do I get started?

Get yourself a ticket to WordCamp Antwerp first. In the near future, we will launch a post and form to register for the Contributor Evening (separate registration) but that will be free of charge if you have your WordCamp ticket.

In the opening remarks, we’ll introduce the different teams and their team leads so you can decide which team you want to join for the evening. For those who are new, we will have an onboarding table to answer all your questions about the different teams.

I don’t have much experience with WordPress, can I participate?

Yes, you can! Everyone can contribute to WordPress. Some teams might require experience with the platform and programming skills, but a lot of others don’t. Teams like Polyglots or WordPress TV do not need any prior knowledge so they are an easy way to start, you only need a free WordPress.org account and off you go! We plan to guide anyone who is new to contributing.

What teams will be at WordCamp Antwerp?

We are still planning and reaching out to have a few leads for this nice evening. We will update this information soon.

What do I need to bring?

Your notebook (or tablet) and charger. The WIFI will be an open network so you can get started straight away.

What do I need to do upfront?

Make sure you join the Belgian WordPress Slack community and a WordPress.org account will be necessary.
